Congratulations on taking the courageous first step to creating the life you truly deserve! Seeking support is the ultimate act of self-care, one that can spark profound change in the way you see yourself and the way you relate to the world around you. I'm here to help you connect with your most authentic self as we work side by side to overcome the obstacles that are getting in the way of your happiness. No matter what has brought you to therapy, I'll be here every step of the way to guide and support you.
What To Expect From Our Work Together
I will listen to your story with warmth, empathy, and a genuine desire to understand who you are and what makes you tick. Together, we will set goals and identify what's getting in the way of reaching them. You can expect me to ask the tough questions so we can to get to the root of what's holding you back. We will explore different parts of yourself, including parts that hold difficult emotions and memories. By doing so, we will gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. And by understanding your internal world, you'll be better equipped to respond to your needs, connect to your true core self, and be more present and open in your daily life.
It will not always be easy. There will be moments of discomfort as we learn to sit with and open up to painful experiences. But there will also be moments of triumph, breakthrough, even laughter. And you will learn some practical skills for managing difficult thoughts and feelings, communicating more effectively, creating healthier relationships, and clarifying values along the way.
What You Need to Know About Me
I come by this work honestly; having overcome my own mental health challenges, I know what it's like to feel completely lost at sea. I also know what it's like to come through the storm a better, more whole and authentic person, and my greatest passion in life is helping others find the same strength and freedom in themselves.
Though I take my work very seriously, I am at heart a playful and fun-loving person who finds joy in sharing laughter with others. I majored in fiction writing as an undergrad and worked as a copywriter after graduation, eventually starting my own freelance business. I also have a background in comedy, having studied sketch writing at Second City and performed standup at several small coffee shops (and one antique shop) throughout Chicago, some of which were even attended by people I wasn't related to! I love learning new skills and having new adventures, whether its enrolling in tap classes, traveling to new places, or just mastering the art of not killing houseplants. But my biggest delight is in the simple things: eating pizza and watching TV with my best friend/husband and our very special and important cat Norm.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a BA in Creative Writing and a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor and member of the American Counseling Association.
