Couples Intensives

Focused, Structured Support to Help You Break the Cycle

Sometimes couples don’t need months of therapy to know something isn’t working.

You already know the pattern. It’s the same argument. The same misunderstanding. The same hurt feelings. The same shutdown or escalation. You try to explain yourself — and somehow feel even less understood.

Our Couples Intensives are designed for couples who want focused, meaningful movement around a specific issue — not just another conversation that ends the same way.

What Is A Couples Intensive?

A Couples Intensive is a 4-hour, in-person therapy session led by one of our senior therapists. It is designed to help you work deeply and productively on one clearly defined area of concern.

Rather than spreading the work across many weekly sessions, an intensive creates sustained space to:

  • Understand the pattern you’re stuck in
  • Learn new ways to communicate and repair
  • Express needs and longings more clearly
  • Practice healthier conflict resolution in real time
  • Leave with a concrete plan moving forward

This is not rushed therapy. It is focused, structured, and intentional.

Areas of Focused Transformation

A Couples Intensive isn’t just an extended session; it is a surgical dive into the mechanics of your relationship. We move past the surface-level bickering to address the structural integrity of your bond.

1. Breaking the De-escalation Deficit

The Challenge: You are trapped in a “loop” where the same argument repeats with different scenery. You both feel unheard, defensive, and increasingly hopeless.

The Intensive Shift: We map the “negative cycle” that governs your interactions. By identifying the raw spots beneath the anger, we help you shift from reactive fighting to proactive connection, ensuring that when conflict arises, it leads to understanding rather than further injury.

2. Radical Transparency and Needs-Based Communication

The Challenge: Communication has become a minefield of “walking on eggshells” or total emotional withdrawal. You’ve lost the ability to be vulnerable without fear.

The Intensive Shift: We move beyond “I” statements. We facilitate a environment where the unspoken can finally be said. You will learn to decode your partner’s silence or criticism and develop a shared language for expressing core needs without triggering a defensive response.

3. Unified Front: Navigating the Parenting Divide

The Challenge: Disagreements on discipline, values, or daily routines have turned your home into a courtroom, leaving you feeling like roommates rather than partners.

The Intensive Shift: We move parenting from the center of your conflict back to its proper place as a shared project. We work to reconcile divergent values and build a cohesive “parenting blueprint” that honors both perspectives while prioritizing the health of your primary relationship.

4. Restoring the Foundation After Infidelity

The Challenge: The discovery of a betrayal has shattered the “assumed safety” of your marriage. The path forward feels impossible to navigate alone.

The Intensive Shift: We provide a highly structured, secure container for the initial stages of repair. This work focuses on the three pillars of recovery: Atonement, Attunement, and Attachment. We guide you through the heavy lifting of rebuilding transparency and emotional safety, helping you decide how to write the next chapter of your story together.

Why Choose an Intensive Format for Your Relationship?

“Most couples spend years slowly drifting apart. An intensive allows you to bridge that distance in a single intensive session.”

When a relationship is in crisis, 55 minutes once a week can feel like trying to put out a forest fire with a garden hose. The Intensive format offers:

  • Deep Immersion: Without the distraction of daily life, you can stay in the relational space long enough to reach true breakthroughs.

  • Sustained Safety: Having a therapist present for extended hours allows for real-time coaching through the difficult moments that usually lead to blow-ups at home.

  • Momentum: We bypass the check-in phase of weekly therapy and get straight to the work, achieving months of progress in a concentrated timeframe.

Our Process: Thoughtful, Supported, and Personalized

01

Step 1: Pre-Intensive Planning Session

Before your intensive, you’ll meet for a 55-minute session with your therapist.

In this session, we will:

  • Clarify the specific issue you want to focus on
  • Assess whether this format is appropriate
  • Ensure both partners feel willing and ready
  • Set goals for the intensive
  • Create a structured plan for the day

Both partners must agree to participate voluntarily.

02

Step 2: Four Hour Couples Intensive

Your intensive will include:

  • Structured sharing time for each partner
  • Mapping the repeating conflict cycle
  • Skill-building around communication and repair
  • Guided practice on real conversations
  • Identifying unmet needs and underlying emotions
  • Creating clear, practical agreements

Breaks are built in. The pace is intentional. The space is warm, calm, and structured to support productive work.

03

Step 3: Follow Up and Support As Needed

Some couples experience significant clarity and momentum after the intensive. Others benefit from follow-up sessions to reinforce progress and continue repair.

We offer 55-minute follow-up sessions as needed.

Investment

Your Couples Intensive is a focused, high-touch therapeutic experience designed to support meaningful progress in a dedicated setting.

The investment for this service is $1,200, which includes both the 4-hour intensive session and the 55-minute pre-intensive planning session with one of our senior couples-trained therapists.

Because of the extended time, preparation, and specialized nature of this work, Couples Intensives are not billable to insurance and are offered as a private-pay service. If additional support is beneficial following your intensive, follow-up sessions are scheduled separately as standard 55-minute appointments and may be eligible for insurance billing, depending on your plan.

We are always happy to help you understand your options so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

When a Couples Intensive Is Not the Right Fit?

This format is not appropriate for:

  • Abusive or unsafe relationships
  • Ongoing infidelity without commitment to repair
  • Situations where one partner does not want to participate
  • Relationships involving fear, coercion, or intimidation

Safety and willingness are essential for this work to be effective.

During the pre-intensive session, we will assess whether this offering is clinically appropriate for your relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions About Coupes Intensives

How do I get started?

The first step is scheduling your pre-intensive planning session with one of our senior trained therapists.

From there, we’ll collaborate with you to determine whether an intensive is the right next step and create a plan that feels supportive and personalized.

Reach out today to begin.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

Because Intensives involve a significant block of dedicated time and clinical preparation, we have a structured scheduling policy.

  • Payment for the intensive is due 72 hours prior to your scheduled appointment.
  • We require at least 72 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule.
  • Cancellations made with less than 72 hours’ notice will be charged 50% of the intensive fee.

We appreciate your understanding, as this time is reserved specifically for you and cannot easily be filled on short notice.

What happens after the intensive?

Many clients experience meaningful relief and progress after the intensive, but healing is also a process of integration.

If needed, we offer follow-up sessions to:

  • Support emotional processing afterward
  • Reinforce gains
  • Continue deeper work over time

You won’t be left without support once the intensive is complete.

What is the environment like?

Our office space is intentionally designed to feel cosy, warm, calm, and safe.

We want you to feel cared for from the moment you arrive. Your therapist will be attentive to your comfort throughout the session, and the environment will support deep work with a sense of steadiness and ease.

Will there be breaks during the intensive?

Yes — absolutely.

Your comfort and regulation are a top priority. We incorporate breaks throughout the 4-hour block so you can:

  • Rest and reset
  • Get grounded
  • Have water or a snack
  • Take a breath between phases of work

This is focused therapy, but it is never meant to feel overwhelming or rushed.

How should I prepare for the day of my intensive?

We’ll guide you through preparation during your pre-intensive session, but in general, we recommend:

  • Wearing comfortable clothing
  • Planning for a calm day afterward if possible
  • Bringing water and a small snack
  • Arriving with the mindset of giving yourself space to focus inward

Breaks are built into the session, and we will move at a pace that feels steady and supportive.

Can I use insurance for any part of the process?

Yes. While the intensive session is not billable to insurance, the surrounding care often is.

  • The pre-intensive planning session (55 minutes) can typically be billed to insurance
  • Any follow-up integration sessions (55 minutes) may also be billed to insurance, depending on your plan and benefits

We’re happy to help you understand what to expect and answer billing questions before you begin.
