Katie Cappuccitti, LPC

(She/Her)

Therapy for teens, young adults, and adults to better understand themselves, build confidence, work through self-doubt, and take meaningful steps toward the life they want.

Sometimes you know something isn’t working, but you’re not quite sure what to do differently. I work with teens, young adults, and adults who are looking for a space to gain insight, grow, and begin taking practical steps toward their goals. I have experience working with clients from a variety of faith backgrounds as well as LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and chronic illness communities, and I strive to create a space where all parts of your experience can be understood and respected.

Specialties:

  • Self-doubt and low self-worth
  • Negative thought patterns
  • Emotional awareness and communication
  • Feeling stuck or overwhelmed by a problem
  • Personal growth and life transitions

What To Expect

My style is warm, empathetic, hopeful, nonjudgmental, and gently challenging. Clients often describe our sessions as insightful, and one of the things I value most is creating a space where you feel safe enough to be honest while still feeling encouraged to grow.

Sessions with me tend to be open-ended and centered around what you need that day. We’ll usually start by checking in on your mood and energy level and talking about anything you may have tried between sessions. Then I’ll ask what feels most important for us to focus on.

From there, we’ll spend time exploring what is happening, identifying patterns, and figuring out what may help you move forward. If we’ve done particularly emotional work, I may end with a mindfulness or grounding exercise so you have a chance to reset before heading back into the rest of your day.

I believe validation and challenge belong together. Your feelings and experiences deserve to be acknowledged, but growth can also mean looking honestly at thought patterns or behaviors that may no longer be helping you. Once we’ve built trust, I’ll support you in doing both.

We Might Be a Fit If You Feel…

  • “I have a hard time explaining how I feel,”
  • “I know I’m being hard on myself, but I can’t seem to stop,”
  • “I have this problem in front of me and I honestly don’t know where to begin.”
  • “I’m dealing with an illness and need more support on how to manage my life with this reality”

A Little About Me

I became a therapist because I know that life can throw a lot at us. I’ve also experienced how meaningful it can be to have supportive people helping you navigate those difficult seasons. That inspired me to create that kind of space for others—whether you’re going through a challenge, growing into a new version of yourself, or beginning an entirely new chapter.

One grounding exercise I often recommend is using your five senses to reconnect with the present moment. Look for five things you can see, notice four things you can physically feel, listen for three things you can hear, identify two things you can smell, and focus on one thing you can taste. It’s simple, but it can be a helpful way to bring yourself back to what is happening right now when your mind feels overwhelmed.

Outside of therapy, I love exploring Chicago and finding new restaurants, coffee shops, and—most importantly—the best places for a sweet treat. I also enjoy getting outside, whether that means hiking or spending a morning walking through a farmers market.
