Maia Wheeler, LCPC, ATR, EMDR Trained

(She/Her)

Therapy for Black women, students, and creatives seeking embodied healing and clarity.

I support Black women, students and young adults, and creatives, as well as individuals seeking trauma-informed care through somatic, art-based, and EMDR practices. Many of the people I work with are navigating anxiety, relationship dynamics, creative blocks, or major transitions—and want therapy that honors both the mind and the body.

Specialties:

  • Trauma and trauma recovery
  • Relationship patterns and dynamics
  • Stress management and coping
  • Self-awareness and somatic healing

What to Expect

Sessions begin with an overview of what brings you in and your previous experiences with therapy. Together, we’ll identify goals and choose the approach that feels most supportive—whether that’s talk therapy, somatic exploration, art-based work, or EMDR. I’ll help connect what comes up in session to your larger goals and transitions. The first session includes time to share relevant personal history, get oriented to the process (including remote logistics if applicable), and plan next steps. Between sessions, I may suggest journaling, mindfulness prompts, creative expression, communication practices, or occasionally bringing art materials into session—always tailored to what feels accessible and supportive.

We Might Be a Fit If You Feel…

  • Anxious or stressed and want to better understand what’s happening in your body
  • Curious about relationship patterns or feeling stuck in creative or life transitions
  • Ready to process trauma in a way that goes beyond talking alone

A Little About Me

I believe healing happens through the body as much as through understanding—and that relational work and community are essential parts of the process. My work integrates art therapy, EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and somatic practices to support awareness, regulation, and growth through change. I’m especially skilled at weaving together different therapeutic styles and identifying themes across experiences.

My path into therapy was shaped by curiosity about complementary healing and creativity. I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine and complementary therapies while abroad at Middlesex University in London, and continue to explore how creative practice and somatic support trauma healing. Outside of work, I enjoy time in nature, creative spaces, art-making, and being with family and friends. If you’re looking for a grounded, creative, body-based approach to healing and transition, I’d be glad to work with you.

I may not be the best fit for primary ADHD treatment beyond stress management and referral support.

If you’re ready to reconnect with your body, explore your inner world with curiosity, and move toward healing in a more integrated way, therapy can support that process.
