Margaret Hunt, LPC, NCC

(She/Her)

Therapy for adults seeking clarity, meaning, and freedom from unhelpful patterns.

I work with adults across the lifespan—regardless of relationship status, identity, or life circumstance—who feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. Many of the people I work with find themselves caught in rumination, panic spirals, or over-functioning in relationships, and are searching for a deeper sense of purpose and direction.

Specialties:

  • Existential concerns (meaning, purpose, direction)
  • Intrusive thoughts and panic spirals
  • Phobias
  • Codependency and over-functioning in relationships

What to Expect

Sessions evolve over time. Early on, we’ll use open-ended questions and reflection to better understand your story and experiences from your perspective. As therapy progresses, sessions may include brief check-ins on challenges, wins, and barriers to growth, along with psychoeducation and more intentional exploration of beliefs and behaviors. In later stages, we often focus on maintaining progress and identifying additional supports. The first session is about getting a broad understanding of your life, what’s bringing you to counseling, and your goals—whether or not those goals feel fully formed yet. When appropriate, I may suggest between-session practices such as journaling, educational resources, or structured exercises like exposure hierarchies for anxiety, phobias, or OCD-related concerns.

We Might Be a Fit If You Feel…

  • “Why am I thinking about this so much—I can’t stop ruminating.”
  • “What am I supposed to be doing with my life? Who do I want to be?”
  • “Why do I keep ending up in relationships or roles that don’t feel right for me?”

A Little About Me

I believe meaningful change happens when we feel safe and accepted in the present while taking small, values-aligned steps toward who we want to become. My work is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), with a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based lens and integration of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I’m a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (Level II) with experience supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients, and I speak French at a C1 level.

I became a therapist out of a deep value for self-growth and a belief in finding humor along the way. Outside of work, I enjoy baking pastries, exploring Chicago’s restaurant scene, and staying active through biking and running. If you’re looking to explore meaning, build self-compassion, and move toward a more aligned life, I’d be glad to work with you.

I may not be the best fit for clients seeking treatment for addiction, long-standing suicidal ideation, or unpredictable mood instability.

If you’re ready to slow down, get out of your head, and heal in a space that feels safe and real, I’d love to support you.
